Atlanta Thrashers vs. Washington Capitals
Atlanta Wins 7 - 4
I personally thought they would lose, but the Thrashers pulled off a win tonight (or last night, depending on you’re time zone) against the Capitals and I couldn’t be happier that I was wrong. It was an excellent game, fast and not a little rough.
I was totally surprised by the win, during the first period the Thrashers came out play fast and with a lot of energy, scoring three goal in the first 15 mins of the first period (Hainsey, Reasoner, and Little. In that order). Then Alexander Semin scored the Capitals first goal with 5 minutes left.
The second period was kind of crappy for the Thrashers, it seemed like that one goal by Semin took the wind right out of them, and they drew a few penalties, one penalty gave way to a short handed goal by Steckel for the capitals, but the Thrashers returned with a PPG by Kozlov. Reaasoner took a high stick double minor that led to Washington scoring two more goals, both by Mike Green and that had the game tied up at 4-4 at the end of the 2nd.
The thrid period started and the Thrashers looked renewed, but most of it was pretty uneventful, aside from a couple of penalties, it wasn’t until the last 5 or 6 minutes that things started to heat up, there was an almost fight, the names escape me right now but gloves were thrown down but before a punch could connect the Thrashers player slipped and fell to the ice, Atlanta scored three more goals to end the game 7 – 4. After Atlanta scored their 7th goal Donald Brashear punched rookie Zach Bogosian in the face several times. I think Zach got in one good lick, I can’t be sure but it looked like he did. 6 more games against the Capitals down the road, it should be interesting.
Oh, Capitals goalie Jose Theodore was pulled after the Thrashers 4th goal during the second period. I always hate to see a goalie get pulled no matter what team it is.
