Alice in Chains – Dirt

Continuing my Alice in Chains kick, we have the third release from the band, Dirt, probably best know for the tracks Rooster and Would?, Would? Being from the soundtrack of the 90’s grunge era movie about Seattle life, Singles.

Releasing in 1992 (man, it doesn’t seem that long ago, 16 years ago) Dirt is a dark and powerful album, if SAP had never been released then this would be the best album in the AiC catalog, with songs like Rooster, Would?, Sickman, and Junkhead, they make for an extremely good album.

The best songs on the album are obviously Rooster, a song Jerry Cantrell wrote about his fathers time in Vietnam during the “Police Action” by the U.S., one other is Would?, we’ve all heard these songs over and over, they’re great, no doubt about that. But one of my favorites from the album is Junkhead, it’s a dark song about the road to addiction, some of Alice in Chains best material is about addiction, this track is no exception. It’s told from the perspective of an addict who is struggling with sobriety and his (or her) addiction, but has people around who are constantly enabling him (or her).

If you’re new to Alice in Chains, do yourself a favor and get this album, hell, get their whole catalog, they’re all classic and will surpass anything you buy brand new today.
