Atlanta Thrashers 4 vs Tampa Bay Lighnting 3
Well, I have to say that I’m getting a little excited about the Thrashers, I know I shouldn’t be, but the last three games they looked solid, especially against Ottawa. With last nights win Atlanta are 2-1-0 who I think they outplayed offensively but just couldn’t get it together defensively.
Last nights game was well played by both teams, 18 seconds into the first period Kozlov scored first with an unassisted backhand. It was followed by a goal for Tampa by Martin St. Louis and then another for Tampa, a tip in by Adam Hall, this is where I start to get nervous because in the past when Atlanta loses the lead they just fall apart. But that didn’t happen Atlanta bounced back with a goal from Perrin at 15:13 to tie it up and then they took the lead with a very nice wrister from Todd White at 18:23.
The second period was pretty tame, no goals from either team and just 3 penalties, 2 for Tampa and 1 for Atlanta but neither team was able to convert.
The third period saw a little bit of action with a goal by Joey Crabb to further the Atlanta lead by two making it 4 -2. About half through the third, thing began to fall apart a tiny bit, Atlanta took penalty after penalty and gave Tampa scoring chance after scoring chance until they finally scored a goal at 17:28, the second for Martin St. Louis. But The Thrashers kept it together enough to keep the Lightning at bay for the remaining few minutes.
This game also marked the return of goalie Kari Lehtonen and defenseman Mathieu Schneider, both have been sorely missed, especially Lehtonen, both Hedberg and Pavelec did a great job back stopping in his absence but you need your starting goalie.
