Coltrane Motion - Songs About Music

Let me tell you something about this album, if your on any kind of medication (prescribed or otherwise) stay away from this album, I was clean and sober when I decided to listen to Songs About Music and I thought someone slipped a mickey in my tea, it was literally almost too hard to concentrate on what I wanted to write because I kept getting drawn into the music, but then that’s kind of the point of music, no?
Coltrane Motion are a duo from Ohio (now based in Chicago), they call their music electronic noise-pop, I get the electronic, their music is derived from, well, electronics. And I get the pop, their music is very pop oriented even if it’s not top 40. It’s the noise part I have a problem with, their music isn’t noise, it’s melodic, the best way I can describe is fluidity set to sound.
The entire album flows through your speaker like a rough semi-choppy river, you feel the currents just enough for them to put you in state of relaxation to the point where your half way between awake and asleep and the music permeates and influences your dreams, it’s just good stuff.
I should mention that Songs About Music came out in 2007, but Coltrane Music has a 7″ single out now (released not that long ago) called The Year Without Summer, if you like the track I posted below chances are you’ll like the single.
