Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears – Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is

I think I’ve said this before, I’m no expert on Blues music, I rarely listen to it and I can count the bluesman I know of on one hand, but I know what I like. I like music that moves me, music that causes a stir in my gut and injects adrenaline into my veins. This is one of those albums, I listened to it today when I got home and couldn’t sit still for an hour afterwards…okay that’s an exaggeration, but I was pumped up after listening to it.
It sounds a lot like something James Brown would do, the singing is a little similar to Brown and the big band in the back is reminiscent of James Browns band, I could totally see James Brown doing Big Booty Woman, but that doesn’t take anything away from the music or the singing, it still sounds fresh, new and genuine.
There was a song on the CD that I didn’t really like, but some weren’t as good as others, Get Yo Shit is one of the best tracks on the album and all you have to do is listen to it and you will agree. Not only is it good it’s sort of funny. Humpin’ is a good name for a song, but it’s an instrumental so there isn’t a whole lot to say about it. Please Pt. Two is the best on the album; if you’ve ever wanted a woman back then you know what it’s about.
