Atlanta Thrashers vs. Ottawa Senators

Alright, I know I’m late for the party but last night was a long night of NHL 2K9 right after the game so I didn’t get around to writing about the game. But I’m sure there has been lots of stuff written about the spectacular win against the Ottawa Senators last night.
The first period was a little shaky, Atlanta gave up two goals but they were able to tie come back and tie it up both times. The first was a Power Play goal, it was probably the worst blunder of Atlanta’s season, the puck was dumped to Atlanta’s end and Hedberg went behind the net to play around the corner but fanned on the puck giving Nick Foligno enough time to get to it before Hedberg recover and sending it to Jason Spezza who got an empty netter making it 1 – 0 Ottawa. Atlanta was able to recover with a tip-in goal from Nathan Oystrick with assists from Perrin and Army. The first period ended with the game tied at two each, with goals by Spezza (again) and Kovalchuk.
Speaking of Kovy, he scored his 40th of the season making him 4th overall in goals, he’s had at least 40 goals for the last five seasons and 294 career goals.
The second period was nothing but Thrashers hockey; it seemed they spent the entire period at the Senators end leaving Hedberg at the other end all by his lonesome with nothing to do. The Thrashers took the lead during this period scoring 3 goals in just under 3 minutes thanks to Marty Reasoner, Toby Enstrom, and Colby Armstrong who was due to score a goal any time now, giving the Thrasher a 5 – 2 lead over the Sens.
The third period the Sens got it together enough to score a Power Play goal making it 5 – 3 Atlanta, but the Thrasher were able to keep their lead and expand it again with a Power Play goal by Slava Kozlov making it 6 – 3 and the Thrashers were able to skate away with the win.
Last night’s win was also Johan Hedbergs 100th career win, at the end of the game you could see him promptly scoop up the game puck with his glove so congratulations to him.
