Nancy Newlis – Dreamers EP
Russian born singer songwriter Nancy Newlis has recently released her debut EP titled Dreamers, Nancy has apparently has worked and earned fair amount fame in Mother Russia. There are a lot of names dropped on her website that I’ve never heard of but after doing a little bit of research the people she’s worked with she has a pretty impressive resume, in Russia any way. We all know that the reputation a musician you establish in your home country doesn’t necessarily translate to another. But after listening to the EP I think Nancy Newlis has the talent to make her well known in the States as well.
When I was first approached to review the EP I was hesitant but I agreed, I thought I would regret it because the first couple of songs were not exactly ear catching, if you follow my meaning. Then Mistakes started and I paused, in fact the whole world paused. It was deeply moving and powerful. Then What Is It played through and I was still captivated by what I was hearing through the ear buds. It was utterly beautiful and Nancy’s voice was ethereal but it still had a deep bluesy texture, it was fantastic.
I don’t know if any of you reading this have heard of Nancy Newlis, but I suggest you give her a chance and listen to her music. If the album doesn’t grab you at first just keep listening, the power of the album takes a minute to form. And when it does you will be completely satisfied by what you hear.
